Brainstormers will be included in the group show Air Kissing at Momenta Art in Brooklyn.
OPENING - Friday November 16, 7-9 PM
Air Kissing: Contemporary Art about the Art World explores art world malaise, or the particular predicament of contemporary artists vis-à-vis their relationship to the art world--specifically, artists' sense of dissatisfaction, criticism, and ambivalence. Granted, some artist gripes amount to water cooler chatter and others to sour grapes, but many are serious and legitimate grievances, often taking a demonstrable toll on artists' sense of purpose. Forced to navigate the precarious situation of desiring what they hold in low regard, artists have responded with self-deprecation, humor, sharp criticism, and a deliberate mix of high culture with low. Participating artists include: Alex Bag, Conrad Bakker, the Brainstormers, Lizette Kabré with Elmgreen & Dragset, Andrea Fraser & Jeff Preiss, David Hammons, Jason Irwin, Lee Lozano, James Mills, Elena Nemkova, Carl Pope, William Powhida, William Bryan Purcell, Mira Schor, and Amanda Trager. On view at Momenta Art November 16 - December 17, 2007. More information at www.momentaart.org.
